CRITERIA FOR AWARDING EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARHIPS

Educational scholarships (Bursaries) are awarded to bright but needy students to enable them continue with their education irrespective of their gender, religion or race.

The student (applicant) shall have to fulfil the following criteria:

1.Should be:
a) In form 3 and above of secondary school
b) Joining university

2.Should be of high academic achievement:

• At Secondary level – the student should have attained a minimum of 400 points at Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and should have maintained a mean grade of A- in their stay in Secondary School.
• Joining at University level – student should have attained a minimum of A at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KSCE)

3.A student should be an active participant in at least one extra curricular activity – sports, drama, debate, music, etc.

4.Bursaries are reviewed on a yearly basis therefore a student has to maintain their grades
The awarding of bursaries shall be at the discretion of the vetting committee and cannot be questioned by the applicants and/or their proposer.
The maximum grant awarded is normally K.shs 100,000.00 per annum although this may be exceeded if the trustees feel there is a special reason to do so.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

1.The purpose of the grant application must be charitable and the Foundation will only consider applications approved by current or former principals of learning institutions where the applicant is studying or has studied.
2.The Foundation’s area of interest is Kenya and Kenya citizens residing in Kenya only.
3.The Foundation may consider applications from other educational charities if any grant made will be used to benefit needy students.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS

The Foundation’s trustees assess all applications and shall consult with your current or former school principals.  Applicants may be telephoned, emailed or visited by the Trustees. Trustees meet once a year to consider the applications and applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by letter or phone call.  It should be noted that applications usually exceed available funds by a ratio of ten to one.

HOW TO APPLY

Applications should be made on the application form. (Applications should be accompanied by copies of all relevant school report cards, results and/or testimonials).
Applications from other educational charities must demonstrate that the grants requested will be applied to benefit needy students.

Students (at secondary level) are invited to apply for this bursary over the December School break when the school year is complete and the student can provide full receipts for any monies paid, have their school reports and fee structure in place.
Students (at university level) apply in June at the end of your academic year. Please note that this fund pays money to valid applicants retrospectively i.e. for an applicable course already undertaken and paid for during the year.Please note that the amount of money available through this fund and the terms & conditions may change from year to year.
